This is obviously the work of a true obsessive - it's the kind of labour of love which rarely sees the light of day anymore. A vast compendium of information on nuns and film, profusely illustrated and littered with arcania and esoterica, it's the sort of book no sane person would embark on.
Steve Fentone's encyclopaedic knowledge of the subject is truly impressive, and he manages to list everything from Dead Man Walking to Two Mules For Sister Sara to ultra-obscure hard-core porn. Although the central focus is clearly on film and video, there are useful appendices covering TV, comics, multi-media, advertising etc. Books are included in the multi-media section, but it's singularly lacking a listing of the vast library of porn novels featuring our fallen Sisters (including my own House of Pain).
However this is quibbling, as a filmography this book cannot be faulted. In addition to the director and cast, many of the films include story outlines and quick reviews. Despite the book's subtitle - The Bible of Nasty Nun Sinema and Culture - many of the films, such as Dead Man Walking, have real merit. However these stand side by side with soft core porn, silly comedies (Nuns On The Run) and the impossibly earnest. Basically if a film includes a nun in any shape or form then it's likely to be here.
Finally, everything is categorised and cross-referenced, surely the ultimate proof that Fentone is a man possessed. How Fab Press can produce books like this is beyond me, they stand head and shoulders above so many others.
